Installed a NetApp FAS 250 to provide centralised storage for Windows and Linux servers, Oracle databases and CIFS shares.

Upgraded from FAS 250 to FAS 270 and re-purposed existing FAS 250 as an offsite SnapMirror target, complementing the existing tape backups.

Working with suppliers, I assisted in replacing the WAN connections with redundant links for resiliency and additional links for data synchronisation and business continuity across sites. We used SNMP to analyse typical usage and produce a 5 year forecast.

Redesigned MS Exchange environment to utilise iSCSI instead of local storage.

Upgraded and maintained core switches throughout the network depending on their current and predicted use.

Configured VLAN’s

Teamed NIC’s to allow higher bandwidth and resilience.

Performed the Hardware and OS upgrade of 30+ servers to HP DL360/DL380 and Windows 2003.

Working with suppliers, I migrated the server infrastructure to VMWare vSphere 4.1 out of hours, reducing the impact on the business.

Maintained a Cisco PIX firewall, ensuring the correct level of security to Fire Control and the organisation as a whole.

Provided out of hours support, via telephone or site visits as required.

Assisted the organisation to become the first fire service in the UK to achieve ISO 27001 accreditation.

On call firefighter responding to emergencies, protecting the general public and preventing preventable injuries or death.

Providing first / second line IT support for an organisation providing logistics for the UK Harrier air fleet.
